Kivikoski Cottage has beds for 8 guests. The number of guests and any additional beds or spare mattresses must be agreed with us in advance. The basic rental price includes accommodation for up to 8 guests.

🔑 Keys and check-in
The key to Kivikoski Cottage is kept in a key safe. The location of the key safe and its code will be sent by email no later than one day before your stay begins. You may arrive at the cottage from 16:00 onwards. On the day of departure, you must leave the cottage by 12:00 noon.
On departure, put the key back in the key safe and make sure that the key safe is properly locked.
If the key does not work or you cannot get into the cottage, contact Suomen Kotteria customer service. Do not leave the key outside or in another location unless specifically instructed to do so. If you lose the key, inform us immediately.
Kivikoski Cottage is located at Strukantie 30, Pyhtää
Kivikoski rental cottage is located by the river at Strukantie 30, 49270 PYHTÄÄ. From Helsinki, take the E18/E7 motorway towards Kotka. Exit the motorway at junction 70 (Pyhtää KK) and drive up the ramp to the roundabout. Turn right onto road 3503 and continue for 580 metres. Turn right onto Strukantie and continue along the gravel road for approximately 650 metres. Turn left into the yard of the grey log-built villa. There is also a log-built sleeping hut and a red storage building in the yard. More information about driving to Kivikoski.
Parking
There is space for six cars in the yard. Do not park on the road or along the roadside.
Charging an electric car and heating your car
Charging an electric car from the cottage’s electrical outlets is not permitted. Ordinary household sockets must not be used for charging electric vehicles, as the fuses cannot handle the load. The nearest high-power charging point is at the ABC service station in Pyhtää, approximately one kilometre from the cottage.
Do not use the cottage’s electrical outlets to heat your car. The fuses cannot handle this load.
Arriving by bus
Kivikoski Cottage is also easy to reach by public transport. The cottage is only about one kilometre from Pyhtää church. Both local buses in the Kotka region and Onnibus services between Helsinki and Kotka stop in Pyhtää village.
The bus from Helsinki stops at Pyhtää church. You can also get off at motorway junction 70 (Pyhtää KK). The distance from Pyhtää church to Kivikoski Cottage is approximately one kilometre. If necessary, you can ask for a taxi: Kymenlaakson Taksi: tel. 0100 87227
📋 Passenger registration
Everyone staying at the cottage must complete a passenger registration form. The forms can be found in the small cardboard box below the television. Please fill in the details of all guests and leave the completed forms on the dining table when you leave.

📶 WiFi and electricity at the rental cottage
Kivikoski Cottage has wireless internet access (3G/4G). The WiFi networks are called SavantumFree and savantum_free. The password is savantum.
You can check power outages on the Kymenlaakso electricity outage information page. The page can also be accessed using a mobile phone.
🌡️ Heating and air conditioning
The cottage has direct electric heating, an air-source heat pump and a heat-retaining fireplace.
To save energy, we lower the temperature when the cottage is unoccupied. The temperature is controlled remotely, but while staying at the cottage you can control the heating using the “heating on/heating off” switch. The switch is located in the living room next to the stairs to the loft. The switch operates wirelessly; hold it down for a few seconds so that the receiver receives the signal. The switch adjusts the room temperature and reduces domestic hot-water heating, so select the home setting when necessary to keep the cottage warm and ensure that enough hot water is available.
Sometimes guests switch the radiators off. When you want the heating on, check that the radiators are switched on.
Electric radiators must not be covered because of the risk of fire. If the air intake openings of an electric radiator are covered, the radiator may overheat and ignite nearby combustible materials. An electric radiator may also overheat due to a malfunction and ignite combustible materials in its immediate vicinity. Never cover a heater, even partially.
The toilet in the main building has an extractor fan equipped with a motion sensor. After use, the fan continues running for a few minutes and then switches off automatically.
Instructions for using the air-source heat pump
In addition to the electric radiators, the living room of the Kivikoski main building has an air-source heat pump. The heat pump is controlled with a remote control. The remote control is mounted on the living-room wall to the left of the loft stairs.
🔥 Fireplaces and fire safety
The Kivikoski main building has a sauna and a heat-retaining fireplace. As a tenant, you are responsible for using the fireplaces and stoves safely. If you are unsure how to use the fireplace or sauna stove, or if you notice anything unusual, contact maintenance.
Using the heat-retaining fireplace
- Open the flue damper before lighting the fire. The flue damper for the Kivikoski fireplace is located in the changing room behind the fireplace.
- Check the firebox. Remove excess ash only when it has completely cooled, and use a metal ash container. The ash containers are located next to the sauna stove and fireplace.
- Arrange the firewood so that no more than approximately two-thirds of the firebox is filled. Leave the remaining space for air circulation.
- Light the fire from the top using dry kindling, birch bark, newspaper or firelighters. The use of flammable liquids is strictly prohibited. Never burn chipboard, plywood, painted or glued wood, plastic or other waste such as milk cartons, plastic bottles, plastic film or sausage packaging in the fireplace.
- Open the air vents while lighting the fire. Once the fire is burning properly, adjust the air supply as appropriate. Keep the fireplace doors closed while the fire is burning. If the fireplace has been cold for a long time, the draught may initially be weak and smoke may enter the room during lighting.
- If necessary, you can burn a second load of wood once the first load has burned down to embers. Always open the door slightly first and then slowly, so that smoke does not enter the room.
- When the fire is almost finished and the embers have darkened, the flue damper can be reduced so that it remains approximately 3–4 cm open. Close the flue damper completely only when the embers have burned out completely. This prevents the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Smoking
Smoking inside the cottage is strictly prohibited. Smoke outdoors and use ashtrays. Do not leave cigarette butts in nature.
Smoke alarms
The rental cottage has smoke alarms in the living room and sleeping areas. If a smoke alarm starts beeping briefly every few minutes, the battery may be running low. In this case, remove the smoke alarm, replace the battery and inform customer service.
Fire extinguishing equipment
The cottage has a dry-powder fire extinguisher and a fire blanket to the right of the main building’s exterior door. Please check the location of the fire extinguishing equipment immediately upon arrival. If you notice any deficiencies in the fire extinguishing equipment, please contact our customer service.
Firewood
Firewood can be found in the firewood storage shed behind the sleeping hut.
💧 Washing machines, water and wastewater at the rental cottage
The cottage has municipal water supplied by Kymen Vesi.
There is a dishwasher and a washing machine in the kitchen. Before using the machines, open the washing-machine water tap so that the machine receives water. The dishwasher water supply is opened using the lever underneath the kitchen sink tap. Remember to close the tap after use. (Lever to the left = OPEN)
The wastewater system has a macerator pump that pumps waste to the municipal sewer network approximately 100 metres away. To prevent damage to the macerator pump, it is extremely important that nothing other than human waste is put into the toilet. For example, plastic or sanitary towels can damage the macerator pump or block the sewer.
The toilet in the sleeping hut has a small washbasin supplied with water through an instantaneous water heater. The water heater may remain plugged into the wall. If the plug is disconnected, you can get hot water by plugging it into the wall. Please note that because of the instantaneous water heater, the water pressure at this tap is lower than normal, with a flow rate of approximately 6 litres per minute.
💦 Water leak
If you notice a water leak, the water can be shut off using the main water shut-off valve in the technical room of the main building’s shower area.
📺 TV and HDMI
The cottage has a television with an HDMI connection. HDMI and other connection cables may not be available at the cottage. If you want to connect your own computer, game console or other device to the television, bring the necessary cables with you.
🧴 Cleaning products, paper and other supplies
The cottage has:
- Dishwasher detergent, washing-up liquid and hand soap. The detergents are in the upper kitchen cupboard opposite the refrigerator. General-purpose cleaning products and pine soap can be found in the supply cupboard under the sauna benches.
- Spare light bulbs, vacuum cleaner bags and batteries are in the kitchen cupboard below the microwave.
- Kitchen and toilet paper can be found on the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard. If you are staying with a larger group for a longer period, please bring some extra paper in case the supplies at the cottage run out.
We do not guarantee that the cottage has laundry detergent, shower gel or shampoo.
🧹 Cleaning, bed linen and towels
Final cleaning is not included in the Kivikoski cottage rental. The cottage must be left clean and in the same order as when you arrived. Even if you have ordered final cleaning, please make sure before departure that the dishes have been washed and put away, rubbish has been taken to the waste container, belongings have been returned to their proper places and the cottage is otherwise tidy.

Bed linen and towels
The hand towels hanging in the bathrooms, the kitchen towel and the sauna bench towels found in the sauna changing room are available to guests free of charge. Bath towels and bed linen are not automatically included in the rental price.
You can bring your own bed linen and towels or rent them from us for €20/person. The rental set includes sheets, duvet cover, pillowcase and bath towel. Rented bed linen can be found in the cupboard above the microwave. Towels can be found in the cupboard above the bed in the main building’s bedroom. After use, leave the rented bed linen and towels on the floor of the main building’s shower room. The cleaner will take them to the laundry.
🐕 Bringing a pet to the cottage
You are welcome to bring a pet to the cottage. Pets must always be mentioned when making the reservation. The pet fee is normally €10 per pet per night. If you have severe allergies, you can ask customer service when pets last stayed at the cottage. Read more about bringing pets to a cottage.
If you bring a pet to the cottage, it is important to make sure that the pet does not cause any damage to the property and that any pet waste is collected from the yard. If your pet causes damage to our cottage, please contact customer service immediately so that we can agree on compensation for the damage together.
Mouse repellents
From autumn to spring, Kivikoski Cottage uses ultrasonic mouse repellents. The devices are plugged into electrical outlets. Humans cannot hear them, but dogs or cats may be disturbed by the sound. If you unplug the devices during your stay because of your pet, for example, please remember to plug them back in before leaving.
👶 Equipment for families with children
The cottage has a high chair. There is also a travel cot in the equipment loft above the sauna. To set up the travel cot, first press the long sides down, then the ends, and only then the base. When folding the cot for storage, do this in the reverse order.

Gas grill and barbecue hut
There is a semi-open barbecue hut in the yard with a small campfire site.
There is a gas grill on the cottage terrace. Use of the gas grill is always the customer’s responsibility, and the condition of the grill must be checked before use. Read the instructions and see more tips for safe and successful grilling.
The gas grill is available all year round, including winter. When grilling in winter, you should also consider how gas behaves in freezing temperatures and the potential challenges caused by cold weather.
Spare gas cylinder
There is a spare gas cylinder in the storage shed. Please let us know if you use the spare cylinder so that we know to bring a new one to the cottage during the next inspection.
Open fires
Making an open fire is prohibited during a forest fire warning, including at designated outdoor fire sites. Always follow the current instructions issued by the authorities.
♨️ Cottage sauna and additional-charge riverside sauna
Cottage sauna
The wood-heated sauna in the Kivikoski main building is included in the cottage rental. Instructions for heating the wood-burning sauna.
Riverside sauna
There is a separate electrically heated glass-walled sauna by the river at Kivikoski. Riverside sauna – prices and instructions.
The riverside sauna is available all year round. It must be booked separately and costs €45/day.
💦 Hot tub
There is a wood-heated hot tub in front of the sauna at Kivikoski. The hot tub is available to cottage guests for €80/day. Filling, heating and cleaning the hot tub are not included in the rental price unless separately agreed. Hot tub – prices, booking terms and instructions.
The hot tub is available all year round and can be heated in approximately two hours in summer with its efficient stove. In winter, heating takes a little longer. More detailed winter instructions are available here.
🌊 Pier, beach, rowing boat and swimming
The shoreline at Kivikoski is shallow, with a muddy bottom near the shore. There is a lightweight floating pontoon pier measuring approximately 5 × 2 metres. The water depth at the end of the pier is approximately 1.2 metres, and there is a four-step swimming ladder for easy access to the water. The riverbed at the end of the pier is made of natural stones, so please walk carefully in the water to avoid hurting your feet.
Do not jump from the pier. Please note that there are rocks in the river.

Do not jump from the pier into the water. Swimming is at your own risk. Children must be supervised particularly closely.
🛶 Rowing boat and life jackets
There is a rowing boat at the cottage. Check that the boat is properly secured before use and always before leaving. Keep the equipment in the boat in its proper place and return the boat properly secured after use.
Life jackets in different sizes can be found in the storage building. Always bring appropriately sized life jackets for children, as the cottage storage may not have the correct size. There are no life jackets for pets at the cottage, so bring your own pet life jacket if necessary.
🗑️ Waste management
The mixed-waste container shared by Kivikoski and Struka is located along Strukantie. Pack waste as tightly as possible so that the container can hold as much as possible. Do not leave rubbish outside the waste container. Close the lid carefully so that animals cannot spread the waste. The waste container is emptied regularly. If the container is full, move any excess rubbish to the storage area and inform us as soon as possible.
If you wish, you can collect empty deposit cans and bottles at our rental cottages and leave the bags in the bottle collection container at the waste shelter. Our maintenance staff will take the bottles and cans for recycling.
♻️ Recycling
The nearest recycling point is located behind the Pyhtää ABC service station. Another recycling point in Kotka is located in the yard of Prisma at Hakamäentie 1, Kotka. Recycling points can be used for, among other things, glass, metal, paper, cardboard and clothing.
🚨 Emergencies and problems
If a problem occurs at the cottage, report it as soon as possible.
- The key does not work: contact customer service.
- Water leak: shut off the main water supply and report it immediately.
- Power outage: check the Kymenlaakso electricity outage map.
- Broken equipment or appliance: report it as soon as possible.
- Safety-related problem: contact us immediately.
- Emergency: call 112.
