🏡 Accommodation, prices and additional services
The Rantakari rental cottage is best suited for families and small groups. The cottage can accommodate 5–8 people. The basic price in the booking system is for 3 people. When the number of guests exceeds three, an additional charge of €25 / person / day is automatically charged for each additional person.
The cottage is located in the yard of a private house, so it is not suitable for hosting loud parties.

Final cleaning, bed linen and towels are not automatically included in the rental price. You can clean the cottage yourself or order a cleaning service from us.
If you would like to bring a pet, please always mention it when making your reservation. Pets are subject to separate arrangements if necessary.
🔑 Keys and checking in
The Rantakari cottage can be accessed with the key stored in the key box. The location of the key box and the key box code will be sent by email no later than one day before the start of your stay. You may arrive at the cottage from 16:00 onwards. The cottage must be vacated by 12:00 on the day of departure.
On the day of departure, return the key to the key box and make sure that the key box is properly locked.
If the key does not work or you cannot access the cottage, contact Suomen Kotteria customer service. Do not leave the key outside or in another location without separate instructions. If the key is lost, notify us immediately.
📍 Location and driving directions
The Rantakari rental cottage is located in Tiutinen, Kotka, at Seurakuja 6, 48930 Kotka. The Rantakari rental cottage is a red wooden building in a yard with red houses, at the foot of a large pine tree by the shore. More information about driving directions here
Driving from Helsinki
- Drive from Helsinki on the E18/E7 motorway towards Kotka.
- Exit the motorway at exit 77 (Anjala / Halla / Sunila).
- Drive up the ramp to the intersection and turn left onto Hurukselantie / Tapiontie. Continue towards Halla harbour.
- When Tapiontie ends, the road becomes Hallantie and turns gently left. Continue along Hallantie over the bridges to Tiutinen island.
- When Hallantie ends, turn gently left onto Tiutisentie.
- Drive approximately 400 metres and turn left onto Seuratie.
- Drive approximately 100 metres and continue past the light-coloured wooden house all the way to the end of Seurakuja by the sea.
Parking
The property is small and parking space is limited. There is one parking space in front of the Rantakari cottage for Rantakari guests. The parking space at the corner of the property is reserved for guests of the main building.
If necessary, a car can be temporarily parked along Seuratie. Additional parking is also available at Tiutinen archipelago parking area, located along Tiutisentie behind the Ekopiste Tiutinen recycling point. It is approximately 300 metres from the cottage.
Electric vehicle charging and car engine heating
Charging an electric vehicle from the cottage’s standard electrical outlet is not permitted. Standard outlets must not be used for EV charging, as the fuses cannot handle the load.
It is not permitted to keep a car plugged into the cottage’s electrical outlet for engine heating, as the fuses cannot handle the load.
Public transport
The bus from Helsinki stops in Karhula, from where there is a bus connection to Tiutinen. The distance from Kotka’s Karhula to the Rantakari cottage is approximately 7.5 km. If you arrive in Kotka’s Karhula by bus, you can ask Kymenlaakson Taksi for a taxi ride to the cottage if necessary. The telephone number is 0100 87227.
Nearby islands
There are many charming small islands in front of Rantakari. However, many of the nearby cottage islands are private. Please respect privacy: landing on private cottage islands is prohibited.
📋 Guest registration form
All persons staying at the cottage must complete a guest registration form upon arrival. Forms can be found in the drawers below the television in the cottage. Fill in the details of all guests and leave the completed guest registration form on the table when you leave.

Cottage sauna
The Rantakari cottage has a wood-heated sauna. Follow the sauna stove instructions and ensure adequate ventilation. Before heating, check that the flue damper is open and that there is not too much ash in the firebox. Do not close the flue damper until the embers have completely burned out.
📶 WiFi and electricity
The Rantakari cottage has a wireless 3G/4G connection. The WiFi device password can be found on the bottom of the device. The device is located on the top shelf of the wardrobe in the bedroom.
Power outages may occur at the cottage during storms. After a power outage, the WiFi device may lose its network connection. In this case, you can switch the device off for approximately five minutes and then restart it.

🌡️ Heating and air conditioning
The temperature of the cottage is lowered when there are no guests staying there in order to save energy. There is a “heating on / heating off” switch in the entrance hall. The switch looks like an ordinary light switch and operates wirelessly. Hold the button down for a few seconds so that the receiver can establish a connection.
The switch:
- adjusts the cottage’s room temperature and reduces domestic hot water heating
- Press heating on when arriving at the cottage and heating off when leaving the cottage.
If the cottage does not heat normally, also check that the electric radiators are switched on.
Air-source heat pump
In addition to the electric radiators, there is an air-source heat pump in the living room. The remote control is located on the wall in the entrance hall. More information about using the air-source heat pump at the cottage here
When you arrive at the cottage and it is cool indoors:
- set the temperature to approximately +20 °C and select the heating mode, i.e. the sun symbol.
- When leaving the cottage during the cooler seasons, you can lower the temperature to approximately +16 °C.
The air-source heat pump can also be used for cooling. In this case, a suitable temperature is usually +25 °C, and the cooling mode, i.e. the snowflake symbol, should be selected. The air-source heat pump also removes moisture from the indoor air, so even cooling by a few degrees can significantly improve indoor comfort.
Toilets and ventilation
The Rantakari cottage has two toilets, one of which is located in the washroom. The cottage is ventilated automatically by a roof exhaust fan. The exhaust fan operates automatically and normally does not need to be switched on or adjusted separately.

The cottage has municipal tap water supplied by Kymen Vesi.

Washing machines and dishwasher
There is a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washing machine in the changing room.
The taps supplying the washing machines may be turned off. Open the tap before using the machine so that it can receive water. The dishwasher’s water supply is opened using the lever under the kitchen sink.
Do not turn off the dishwasher tap after use.
Drainage
The cottage’s drainage system has a macerator pump that pumps wastewater to the municipal sewer network located approximately 100 metres away. To prevent damage to the pump or blockage of the drainage system, only human waste and toilet paper may be put into the toilet. Do not put plastic, sanitary pads or other foreign objects into the toilet, for example.
Water leak
In the event of a water leak, the water can be shut off using the main water shut-off valve located underneath the sauna benches.
🔥 Fireplaces and fire safety
Using the fireplace and sauna
There is a fireplace in the living room of the Rantakari cottage, and the cottage has a wood-heated sauna. The guest is responsible for using the fireplaces and other heating appliances properly. Always follow the instructions provided.
If the fireplace has not been used for a long time and is cold, the draft may initially be poor and smoke may enter the room during lighting.
Smoking
Smoking indoors is prohibited. Cigarette butts must be placed in a suitable container and eventually disposed of in the waste bin.
Smoke alarms
The cottage has mains-connected smoke alarms.
Fire extinguishing equipment
There is a dry powder fire extinguisher and a fire blanket in the entrance area. Check the location of the fire extinguishing equipment immediately upon arrival at the cottage.
Firewood
Firewood can be found in the firewood storage shed located at the corner of the property.
You can use, for example, newspaper, birch bark and small dry sticks to light the fire. Suitable firelighters can also be used. The use of flammable liquids to light fireplaces is strictly prohibited.
Lighting the fireplace
- Before heating the fireplace or sauna stove, check that there is not too much ash in the firebox. There must be sufficient airflow into the firebox through the grate.
- Open the flue damper before lighting the fire. The fireplace flue damper is located above the fireplace and the sauna stove flue damper is located above the stove.
- Place the firewood in the firebox horizontally or vertically, depending on the size of the firebox and the length of the wood. Do not fill the firebox completely; leave approximately one-third of the space for air.
- Light the fire from the top of the wood. Use, for example, small pieces of wood or bark as kindling.
- Do not use flammable liquids.
- Once the fire is burning properly, adjust the amount of air so that combustion is not unnecessarily intense.
- Let the wood and embers burn out completely before closing the flue damper. The flue damper must not be closed completely before the embers have burned out, in order to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Remove the ashes only when they have completely cooled. The ashes can be emptied into the ash container next to the sea terrace door.
Things to note about fireplaces
Fireplaces must not be used to burn chipboard, plywood, materials containing glue or paint, plastic or materials containing plastic, milk cartons, magazines or other waste.
📺 TV and HDMI
The cottage has a television with an HDMI connection. HDMI and other connection cables may not be available at the cottage, so bring the necessary cables with you if you want to connect your own devices to the television.
🧴 Cleaning detergents, paper and other supplies
The cottage has:
- dishwasher detergent, washing-up liquid and hand soap. Cleaning products are stored in the kitchen wall cabinet, changing room and toilet.
- hand towels in the washrooms and a kitchen towel.
We cannot guarantee the availability of: laundry detergent or shower gel or shampoo.
Household and toilet paper can be found in the kitchen cupboard or the bedroom wardrobe. If you are staying with a larger group or for a longer period, it is advisable to bring some extra paper with you just in case.
Bath towels and bed linen are not automatically included in the cottage rental price. You can bring your own or rent them at the cottage.
🧹 Cleaning, bed linen and towels
Final cleaning, bed linen and towels are not automatically included in the rental price of the Rantakari cottage. If you wish, you can clean the cottage yourself or order final cleaning from us. More information about Rantakari cleaning services and bed linen
The price of a bed linen set is €20 / person. You can also bring your own bed linen if you wish.
If you have rented bed linen and towels from Kotteria, you can place them on the changing room floor after use. Our service technician will collect them and take them to the laundry.
If you did not book the services when making your reservation, you can order them later by contacting customer service or booking the services using the form.
🐕 Pets
You may bring a pet to the cottage, but the pet must always be mentioned when making the reservation. The pet fee is €10 / day / pet.
If you have a severe allergy, you can ask customer service when pets last stayed at the cottage.
When staying with a pet, make sure that the pet does not cause damage to the cottage or its furnishings. Pet waste must be collected from the yard. If your pet causes any damage, please notify our customer service immediately so that compensation for the damage can be agreed upon.
Mouse repellents
At Rantakari cottage, electronic plug-in mouse repellents using ultrasound are used from autumn through spring. Humans generally cannot hear the sound, but dogs and cats may be disturbed by it. If you unplug the repellents because of your pet, remember to plug them back in before departure.
👶 Equipment for families with children
In the grey fabric storage boxes in the loft, there is a potty and a small blanket. The same storage box also contains a travel cot for children.
Assemble the travel cot as follows:
- lock the long sides straight first
- attach the short ends
- lower the base only after this.
Bring your own bed linen for the baby.

The property is small, so please be considerate of the other residents of the property and the limited parking facilities.
Gas grill
There is a gas grill on the cottage terrace. Guests are responsible for using the gas grill safely. Check the condition of the grill before use, and never leave the grill unattended while it is in use.
Before using the grill, make sure that the gas hose is properly connected to the gas cylinder. If the gas cylinder is not already connected, attach the pressure regulator (“painesäädin”, shown in the picture below) to the top of the gas cylinder. Lift the black plastic collar with your fingers while pressing the regulator down onto the cylinder, then release and press the collar down firmly. Make sure that the cylinder is securely attached by lifting the cylinder from the regulator. When properly attached, the cylinder should lift together with the regulator and should not come loose.
Once the pressure regulator is securely attached, open the gas inlet valve on the regulator.
To light the grill, open the grill lid first. Turn the first control knob to full power (to the left) and wait a few seconds for the gas to reach the ignition area. Then press the knob lightly down and turn it further to the left to activate the ignition. If the built-in igniter does not work, lift one of the grill grates and carefully light the burner using a lit match at the right-hand front edge of the grill.
Spare gas cylinder
There is a spare gas cylinder in the shed. If you start using the spare gas cylinder, please let us know so that a new cylinder can be delivered to the cottage during the next inspection.
🌊 Jetty, seaside, rowing boat and swimming
The Rantakari shoreline becomes deep very quickly.
There is a floating pontoon jetty at the beach, approximately 6 × 2.5 metres in size. The water depth at the end of the jetty is approximately two metres. The jetty has a four-step swimming ladder, allowing you to enter the water directly into deep water.
The swimming ladder is available from spring to autumn. It is generally removed between December and March because of the ice.
The jetty is secured to the seabed with crossed metal cables to protect it against storm winds. Be careful of the cables when swimming and diving.
There is also a rowing boat at the beach. If you use the boat, always check before departure that it is properly secured.
🗑️ Waste management
Rantakari cottage shares a waste container with the other residents of the property. The container is located to the left at the entrance. Please pack waste as compactly as possible and always close the lid carefully. The container is emptied once a week. Do not leave rubbish next to the container.
There is a separate food waste container (compost) to the right of the firewood storage shed. Food scraps, fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, coffee filters and eggshells can be placed in the compost. Do not put plastic or other packaging in the compost. Cover the food waste with bulking material, such as wood chips, leaf litter or compost bedding. Meat and fish waste should be covered particularly well. A paper bag may be used, but plastic bags are not allowed.
The nearest recycling point is Ekopiste Tiutinen, next to the Tiutinen bus stop at Tiutisentie 17, about 300 metres from the cottage. Glass, metal, cardboard and paper can be recycled there. Other recycling points are available at Prisma Kotka and K-Citymarket Kotka in Jumalniemi.

Before leaving the cottage:
- ☐ Follow the cleaning instructions and clean the cottage thoroughly.
- ☐ If you have ordered final cleaning, arrange the cottage according to the instructions.
- ☐ Take the rubbish to the waste container.
- ☐ Wash the gas grill and tidy the grilling area.
- ☐ Empty the cooled ashes from the fireplace and sauna stove into the ash container.
- ☐ If you used the rowing boat, pull the rowing boat up to the top of the boat ramp.
- ☐ Turn off the lights.
- ☐ Close the windows.
- ☐ Lock the doors.
- ☐ Leave the keys in the key box.
- ☐ Set the heating off switch in the entrance hall to the off position.
