FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS, COTTAGES
Suomen Kotteria – cottage rentals in Southern Finland
Everything you need to know before your cottage holiday – our most common guest questions answered
Taking a cottage holiday is a wonderful experience — but before you get to enjoy the fireplace and the serenity of nature, it’s good to be aware of a few practical things. Here are the questions we hear most often from our guests, and our answers.
How does booking and payment work?
You can make a reservation to our cottages in several ways:
- Via our website — You can check real-time availability and cottage descriptions. Once you book, we’ll send a payment link by email.
- Via phone or email — If you call us at +358 400 534 269 or write to asiakaspalvelu@kotteria.com, we can make a booking for you and send the payment link.
- Through third-party platforms — Our cottages are also listed on Booking.com, Airbnb, Nettimökki, Hotels.com, and others. Depending on the provider, payment is either handled via their system or forwarded to ours.
When you pay the booking fee, your reservation is confirmed. The remaining balance is due according to our terms: at least two months before the start of your stay. If your booking is made less than two months in advance, we usually require full payment immediately (unless other arrangements are made with our customer service)
How do I access the cottage and where do I pick up the keys?
- You will receive a check-in email by the day before your arrival.
- All our cottages have a key safe, and in that email you’ll get the location of the safe and a PIN code to open it. After your stay, please return the key to the same box.
- If for some reason you don’t receive the check-in message, just contact us — we’ll help you out.
- The check-in email also includes driving instructions.
- In addition, each cottage page on our website has specific practical instructions (for example about heating, waste disposal, and cleaning). We strongly recommend reading them carefully before arrival.
What is included in the cottage (what is already there)?
In all our cottages, you will find:
- Basic bedding (pillows and duvets)
- Kitchen essentials (pots, pans, cutlery, stove)
- Fridge and freezer
- Coffee maker and kettle
- Cleaning supplies
If you prefer not to bring your own linens and towels, you can rent them in advance from us. The cottage description on our website gives a detailed list of each cottage’s equipment.
Is there Wi-Fi at the cottages?
Yes — all cottages have wireless internet. The connection quality may vary depending on location and weather. You will receive the Wi-Fi password in your check-in email.
Can I bring a pet?
Absolutely. Pets are welcome at our cottages. There is a pet fee of €10 / pet / night, which we charge at the time of booking. We kindly ask that you clean the cottage carefully after your stay. On our blog, you can read more about what the pet fee covers.
What about cleaning the cottage?
- As a general rule, you (the guest) are responsible for cleaning the cottage when you leave.
- This includes hot tub cleaning, if there is a tub, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing.
- You may order a professional cleaning service from us ahead of time, if you like.
- If you’re doing the cleaning yourself, here are some practical guidelines:
- Kitchen: wipe down all surfaces, clean the oven, microwave, and any trays, empty the dishwasher and put dishes back, and make sure to shut off the water taps. Leave the fridge and freezer running.
- Bathroom, sauna, and WC: mop or wipe the floors, clean the sink and shower walls, empty the sauna stove (ash trap) and remove any firewood to the sauna, and don’t forget to close the sauna flap when done.
- Living rooms and bedrooms: remove ash from the fireplace, bring logs in front of the fire, dust surfaces, make the beds, vacuum upholstery and floors, and tidy up furniture.
How does the hot tub (if available) work, and can I use it?
- If the cottage has a hot tub, there is an additional charge.
- You can reserve the tub when you book the cottage, or later by contacting us.
- Our hot tubs are wood-fired, and once heated, the water stays warm for many hours.
- We provide detailed instructions on how to heat the tub — these are available on the cottage page on our website or via our blog.
- Yes, you can use the hot tub in winter as well — just be sure to read the winter-specific heating instructions carefully.
- After using it, it is very important to drain and clean the tub according to the guidelines so that the next guest also has a clean, pleasant experience.
Can I arrive late in the evening, and is there flexibility in check-in/check-out times?
- Standard check-in time is 16:00, and check-out is 12:00 (noon).
- However, because we use key safes, you can arrive even in the middle of the night if needed — please be considerate of neighbours during quiet hours.
- If there are no guests arriving or departing immediately before or after your stay, we may be able to offer some flexibility with arrival or departure times. It’s best to ask us well in advance.
- Please note that during high season (May–August), we have less room to adjust these times because turnaround is tight between bookings.
What happens if something breaks or goes wrong?
- Let us know as soon as possible if something is damaged or not working properly.
- We’ll do our best to fix things quickly or provide an alternative if needed.
- Our guest support is here to help you with any questions or problems — just reach out.
